I have NEVER asked YOU for MONEY Before... but this time...

...but THIS time ...I´m asking you to give CASH

...UPDATE ...I'll match the first $100USD in donations!
.

...Update Update ...you can ask the team to send you a "donation request" from paypal by sending an email to

baseballba@hotmail.com

Sometimes, nothing other than cash will do.

Dear readers, as we speak, our beloved Buenos Aires Shankees are in dire straits.  They have broken bats against the competition, their gloves have always been in short supply, THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN SHORT OF BALLS ...in one sense ...but in the other sense, they are in need of the old horsehide as well.

To make matters worse, The Shankee Shuttle (the team bus that also is available to fans for the ride out to the National Stadium of Baseball) has blown an engine ...and is in need of about $700 worth of repairs to keep the team and fans going out to the field.

(You expats and tourists alike have no doubt noticed the Estadio Nacional de Beisbol on the ride in from or to the airport.  It´s not exactly close ...but it´s a great field of play.)

Did you know ...that our boys play against other refugees from the great baseball playing nations here?

Although Argentina is not known, itself, as one of the top tier baseball nations ...the Shankees regularly play against expat Cubans, Dominicans, Panamanians, Nicaraguans, and Mexicans.

Most of these other immigrant groups are MUCH more organized to support their efforts ...and the talent from those great baseball-playing nations is formidable.

NONE of them has trouble getting basic equipment and transportation.

It seems that only we US Citizens lack ball and bat and glove ...and transportation to the stadium.

It seems that we always think that our fellow "Americans" are getting along just fine.

Is it because we yanquis (not Yankees!) think that our players will always be the best equipped of them all?   Maybe.

It´s time to stop thinking that way.

Our boys fight and play, all season, every season, against all odds, against the best of all expats of all the best baseball playing countries.  The Shankees don´t get much of a crowd ...even though they have always ferried fans on the team bus, The Shankee Shuttle, ...when it was running.

The "Shankee Skipper", their long-time coach and captain, is a published poet.  When you consider how baseball, itself, is pure poetry when done well ...it doesn´t surprise.  The team members play for the love of the game ...obviously.

There will be a paypal account soon... but that will only go so far.

If you are coming to Buenos Aires, please consider stuffing a ball, a bat, or a glove into your luggage.

If you are NOT coming to Buenos Aires anytime soon ...please consider stuffing a five or a ten into a greeting card ...and sending it to the team by snail mail.  The dollar is very strong, now.  It will go a long way toward keeping the team ...and the team bus ...running and keeping US players up and running on the field!

I´ll be updating you as I receive details from the team.

Dig deep!  You´ll be glad you did.

Hello baseball lovers and fellow Americans, this is The Shankee Skipper. First of all, thanks for caring about the existance of the Shankees. We need your support to get much needed gear and get the shuttle running again, as Yanqui Mike states above. Miraculously, I have been able to create a a paypal account. I guess, all you have to do use this email address: baseballba@hotmail.com to make your donation via Paypal. User name is Shankees Baseball Organization.
Ok, thanks so much, The Shankee Skipper. P.s. I think it takes a few days before the Paypal account is ready to be used. Chau.

Playing on the Shankees was one of the coolest things I did during the sixth months I was BA. I'll make sure to donate a five spot, and do a shot of bourbon for the skipper. Lol!
