Why? Because it´s springtime.
You might be able to find a fresh tom ...but everybody wants hens.
At this time of year, the hens are just finishing brooding (sitting on their nests until the eggs hatch.)
While turkey hens are doing this, they try never to leave their nest ...not even to take food and water.
Afterwards, they are not in the tastiest condition to grace your Thanksgiving Day table.
I believe that´s the way it is in the Northern Hemisphere in springtime, as well.
If you find a fresh turkey hen this month in Buenos Aires ...I´d love to hear a review!
For such a large agricultural country, I think it´s strange that Argentina doesn´t have a "harvest time" holiday.
Anyone want to start a tradition? I´ll bring the turkey!

I quit doing Thanksgiving when we moved here, too hot to roast chickens and I cannot get my brain to work when I tell it, This is Spring and it is Thanksgiving.
So we just skip it.
But next fall ( May/June?) I will maybe stuff a bird and roast it :) But then, where are the cranberries etc?

Ruben found a poultry farm near Banfield, and ordered one for next week. Whether it'll be a hen or a tom, we'll have to wait and see. But at this point, it doesn't matter to me. I just don't want to eat a frozen one from Coto that's been dead for 10 years!

Yanqui Mike, it's all in the planing. START RAISING TURKEYS along with your Beef.
Had a Brother-in-law that raised Turkeys in Madera (California) and can testify that you have never tasted a bird as good as an 11 week old Turkey (about the size of chicken) that's been split and slow roasted over an open fire.
Our butcher found us a couple of turkeys after calling a few of his suppliers. We're picking two 4.5 kg birds up on Wednesday at $32/kg.
This is one of those times that your relationship with a butcher really pays off.
I ordered mine and had a turnaround time of 24 hours. Mine came in at 6.5kg.
I will let you know how it comes out since we are going to celebrate tonight (Friday).
