Just got back from the ranch...

...and man! are things happenin!

I guess, first and formost, we Argentines (and Argentine wannabees) are NO LONGER THE BEEF EATINGEST FOLKS ON PLANET EARTH!  It seems official;  The Guardian.uk is reporting that "Argentina has lost its century-old carnivorous crown. Beef consumption has slumped to 56kg – equivalent to a feather-weight boxer – elevating Uruguay, with 59kg, to the top spot."  Don´t say I didn´t tell ya that was comin´.

Bloomberg jumps on the story, as well, and adds that "Argentine cattle prices almost doubled in 2010 to 6.67 pesos ($1.67) per kilo from 3.46 pesos at Argentina’s largest market, the Mercado de Liniers in Buenos Aires."  Faithful reader of this humble blog remember that Yanqui Mike has been tracking this from the start.

The Cattle Network concentrates more on how dropped of the radar as the biggest beef exporter in the world ...to just about nada.  TCN also mentions how that fact is causing meat-packers here to get out of the business.

High Plains Journal is reporting that US cattle producers could take a fall along the same lines.

New Zealand produces some pretty tasty beef and, as a result, has always kept an eye on Argentina.  Interest.co.nz wants to know, "Where´s the beef in Argentina?"

Perhaps most telling is a report in Meat Trade News from the Irish beef producers that barely mentions Argentina while worrying about Brazil and Uruguay!

Such are the times we live in here in La República fans of grass-fed goodness!  Don´t blame me!  My missus and I still do it the old-fashioned way.  Maybe we´re holding out for some sort of grass-fed boutique market ...but at these prices?  Who cares!  We´re doing better than ever.

If you´re coming to Argentina for the beef, however ...maybe you should bone-up on yer tango!  Yanqui Mike recommends Tango Cherie!
