Coffee in Buenos Aires

I had some business at Av. Santa Fé and Pueyrredón this morning  ...and it being so blustery ...I decided to stop in a favorite old haunt, Establecimiento General de Café.

I´ve raved about it in these pages for years, especially for their ground coffee to take home ...but this time I just needed a cuppa.

'Ta que lo parió!  This place serves the best coffee in town and, maybe, the world.

ELIXER.  That was the only word that I could bring to mind as I sipped a truly heavenly double espresso.  You know what a truly great shot of espresso is... so insert here all the tasting notes and superlatives here.

Try this:  next time you´re having the cafecito of your life... do your best to commit it to memory.  Then, go to Est. General de Café and order one there.  You owe it to yourself.

There´s several locations ...but I only go to the one at Pueyrredón 1529 because that big ol' beauty of a roaster is sitting right there.  I´ve been to the other places ...it tastes better on Pueyrredón.

Please note: I´m usually pretty tough on Starbucks in Buenos Aires but only for cultural hegemony reasons. They´ve become famous for frou-frou drinks but their real claim to fame is their high quality shots of espresso and their incredible consistency.  Try Est. General de Café sometime and let me know what you think.

Thanks to Dan ( Saltshaker) we have been going to EST since we arrived here, over 3 years ago.
We get our Santos French roasted and wait in the cafe, sipping coffee ( doble para mi esposo, cafe con leche para mi) and a pastry. I love the atmosphere and the staff are all great.
What a day today, no? Ugh !

Nasty day, indeed. But the sun came out in my cranium after a deelicious doble con crema!

Have you been to the Pueyrredón local?

Thanks to you Mike, I tried their coffee 2 years ago and it became my favorite. I live in Seattle and can't get coffee as good as they make.

I actually find Charbucks drinkable in BA, something I can't say for their coffee here at home.

Coming from Seattle, that´s high praise,
