"It's possible that coffee, like Argentine yogurt, is just meant as a delivery mechanism for sugar."
Maciej Ceglowski, 2006
Somethings stay the same ...but about 2006, something disappeared from the supermercados here: those familiar glass jars of yoghurt that everyone loved. You could find people eating from them in cafés, and shlepping them through the check-out lines everywhere.
The trouble was that they were made by the Italian dairy conglomerate, Parmalat. When they went teats-up in a big scandal, the little jars were gone.
The yoghurt was great ...but I really dug the jars. I wanted to reuse them for spices, nuts & bolts, any chiquitos that need a perfectly sized, clear glass container (the plastic label came off when you open it.) The trouble was that they came with an old fashioned paper/foil dairy cap. You could put pencils in one, I guess, but they were fairly useless.
It seemed like such a waste especially in a country that re-cycles like crazy. Before Parmalat went under, I thought about sending one of the jars to China just to get them to make a million plastic caps that would fit those jars and make them eminently reusable. I figger'd I could sell them all for a peso a piece.
Well, a couple of years ago, Dahi Yogurt, brought the yogurt and the classic jar back. That was good news.
But a couple of days ago, I noticed that they had added something GREAT: a tough little plastic cap that seals your leftover jar perfectly! I´m building a new spice rack as we speak!
What do you do with your Dahi jars???

I have no Dahi jars but I am going to the market tomorrow so I think spices might be the best thing I can do with them too.
I use olive jars for spices also ..
Someone told me about the yogurt in glass jars the other day. I haven't seen it here in Necochea, but be sure that if I do, I'll be building a new spice rack too! lol
That is sooo true, the jars are great!
Another great jar is the small Nutella. It can double as a small glass or for storage with its very practical lid. Just hope it won't be banned!!!
