Wimax...banda ancha for the hinterland

At the risk of this being of no interest to anyone...

There seem to be advances in broadband for obscure parts of the province. That's good news for the Yanq in that more and more of my time is being spent with the "girls".

My homebase during my ever more frequent visits is 16 clicks from downtown nowhere. No phonelines, no powerlines, no connections except for a cell phone.

I've sketched out planes for various outlandish towers that might be able to connect with a wireless repeater at the nearest available broadband point...but I think my future is with WiMax.

US chip manufacturer Intel, Argentine broadband access solutions provider Ertach and Argentine PC manufacturer BGH have launched a mobile wireless broadband service for rural areas in the Buenos Aires province, the companies said in a statement.
I've been trying to follow the advent of this tech for sometime in addition to what is happening in other remote areas of the world that are aggressively pursuing connectivity.

If anybody is a gurú in this regard, I'd love to hear from you.

"Another example of this “Dark comedy” occurred on a Continental Airlines flight from Argentina to the United States. A 21-year-old university student was arrested when sniffer dogs discovered dynamite in the student’s baggage."
I have to admit to being pretty conflicted by this story. In light of revelations as to the US involvement in the Heathrow clusterfark with possible intent to coverup bad news coverage as just the latest in a long line of making politics and the TSA emptying all of the bottles of potentially explosive liquid ingredients into 50 gallon cocktails, I've got to go along with the circus description.

I'm ashamed and really concerned tho about Argentina's failure to sniff-out some dumbass' souvenir dynamite.

Last week marked my 1 year anniversary of flying (not flying?) back to the states. What have been your sensations on air travel recently?

"My own son lives in Buenos Aires because he adores the culture of Argentina, and perceives a sterility in the jobs of many of his contemporaries in the City. He sees himself simply as exercising a lifestyle choice.

There will be ever more like him."
There's more than a few insightful first- and second-hand takes on the expatriate experience in this article. How's your own experience going?

We're back.

53 days by my count.

I notice that there's still a few people that check in from time to time and to them and everybody that doesn't check in anymore I'd like to apologize for my neglect. I was unavoidably, inescapably, engaged in bringing the yanqui dolar back home to BsAs.

In the meantime, I've been thinking about a new and more daily and timely slant to the old blog.

If you're still out there, lemme know what you think.

Mike
