The Buenos Aires Shankees baseball organization have received from the city´s La Liga Metro, the governing baseball authority, a space of their own.
The Shankees intend to refurbish the space to include comfortable facilities for both team and fans. Located within Parque Roca in the neighborhood of Villa Lugano, across from the ATP tennis complex, this space comprises a vacant softball field and an abandoned clubhouse, which the Shankee President and founder, Paul Perry, has dubbed “Shankee Stadium”.
“This is a dream come true!” states the 42 year old writer from South Philly, who started the team in October 2008 together with American photographer John Harris and advertising expert Jason Hermes.
“This is what the Shankees were missing in order to enhance, expand, and promote our baseball activities within the entire Expat community,” he adds. Though there is a lot of work to be done, such as building base paths, a mound, dugouts, etc, the space is there waiting to be developed. Apart from the field itself, there is also a clubhouse that holds a lot of potential, given that it has a kitchen, a dining area, and a space for the Shankee Wall of Fame, where Perry plans to hang team memorabilia such as autographed bats, balls, jerseys, and a bunch of historic team photos.
The move will put the team in need of even more fan support but the team feels that the development will place the team in a good position for the future, according to the team president. "This is truly great news for the entire Shankee Organization and its fans around the world."
