Buh buh buh bird is the word

My missus arranged for a birding expedition this morning ...our first foray into that (not so) closed society which had hitherto-fore reminded me of the Masons in its insularity.

But while there's a lot of "inside baseball" for the uninitiated ..."birders" are a welcoming bunch and we had a great time exploring a 4km stretch of the reserva ecológica which is a walk from our digs in Retiro.

They do a lot of tours en la reserva ...the one we've been trying to do for years is the "full moon tour" that happens after dark every full moon ...but that baby fills up so fast we've never been able to catch it.

Today was a relative scorcher but the mosquitoes seemed to be sleeping.  Lots of lovely vistas of not only birds but the bizarre panorama of our fair city from a perspective better suited for the dinosaurs.  It's a trip.  You should try it sometime.

The big bonus of the day, however, was meeting Ken and Mahara Sinclaire of The Laughing Boomer visiting from Vancouver, BC.  Kenny mentioned chilled white wine somewhere about midway through the kilometros ...and that just stuck in my head as the most marvelous thing that could be imagined.  When he invited us to lunch afterwards, that and a lot of ice was all I could think of.

Bueno... a couple of dead soldiers later, and after much frivolity before the sun-dappled dique 2, the girls poured us into a taxi with many promises of a re-match.

Lemme know if you'd like to have more info on walking in the ecological reserve ...it's got a lot of stories behind it.

Mike, who do you contact to participate in the tour? Is there a schedule posted somewhere on the 'net?
