If you can vote from Argentina, you need to thank Democrats Abroad

The leaders of Democrats Abroad here on our fair shores met today ...and I came away from that meeting with a really good feeling.

It's been a while since the Presidential Debates and the Elections and the Inaugurations ...and we all needed some downtime (even political junkies, like me!) from that frantic amount of political activity.

But next month marks the 45th anniversary of the founding of DA ...and that's no small shakes! If you as a US citizen, no matter what your party affiliation, can exercise your vote from outside the United States, you have Democrats Abroad to thank.

45 years ago, a bunch of expats thought that something was unfair!

That something was the lack of a federal right to vote if you were outside the US on election day. In those days, your right to exercise your most basic right of US citizenship ...was dependent on whether your particular state agreed with you. DA disagreed and were more than instrumental in backing legislation that said, "you are still a US Citizen even if you are outside the US."

Democrats Abroad was founded simultaneously in Paris and London 45 years ago. They've never stopped fighting for every US citizen's right to vote from abroad.

Democrats Abroad International is broke. But that's GOOD!

That's the way they SHOULD be! DA International spent every last dime on last year's election not reserving anything for the sleepy period after victory.

Time to say "thanks" to the people that brought you the absentee ballot.

Please consider going to:

...and making a contribution to the international efforts of that great organization.

They need to replenish their coffers ...for the fights, and victories, that lie ahead.

Please don't forget. Take a moment and give to them.

There's much more to do.
