World's Largest Spanish Language Daily

Hats off to the lovely Miss Tango in her Eyes for bringing to my attention an article from Sunday's Clarín in which I get an honorable mention (it impressed the hell out of my Porteño family!)

It's a fun article...available on the web here...that features a handsome foto of Los Mount and their newest addition, li'l Janquicito!

The piece includes a bunch of links to BsAs blogs and sites by extranjeros and I was tickled to death that it included at length a description of a post by Jeff Barry that I adored about the closing of his neighborhood shoestore.

I'm glad that my habit of being critical of intolerant expats gets through even in Castellano. It is a subject that I want to explore even more now that the wingbat-dominated forum at baexpats.com has calmed down to a tremendous extent.

Hey! Welcome back from las vacaciones, everybody! (Mine were more like VÁCAciones)

Well I find this blog and your pompous attitude to be insulting to Argentine people and culture. However I excuse you because I know where you are coming from. You are insulated. In your picture your sitting in front of a labtop PC correct? This item cost as much as your average Argentine makes in 8 months give or take. Try and grasp this reality. Hitch a ride around with a cartonero and his children one night as they dig through garbage to scrape up enough up to live on.(If you dare) You comment about Argentina from a very small top, down. I comment from a very broad street level, up. Considering average income, % below the poverty line, quality of life and unemployment figures in Argentina I would say it's easy to see who paints a more balanced picture of life in Argentina. By saying everything is "great" in Argentina your not just belittling Argentina's problems your insulting the Argentine intelligence. They know whats up here and what it is to live here. They are not stupid.

Easy, Maxxy

Let's take it paso a paso, eh? ¿Que te parece?

#1. "This blog is an insult to Argentine people and culture." Could be. But I hope you won't mind my directing your attention to HERE...

http://baexpats.blogspot.com/2006/12/poor-ernie.html

You've probably already read that. So let me give you another one (make sure you read it!) HERE...

http://dba-oracle.blogspot.com/2006/12/buenos-aires-paris-of-south-america.html

Now, write me back and tell me again that my blog is an insult to Argentine people. Please. Please write me back and tell me again that my blog is an insult to Argentine people and culture.

(Pobrecito. Am I being a little tough on you? ¡Que lástima! You have the God-given right to say anything you want...anywhere...including at yanquimike.com.ar but don't think even for a moment that I'll let you go unchallenged...those days are over. In fact, I think I recognize you from the infamous www.baexpats.com Write me back and tell me you don't post there.)

#2. "I find this blog and your pompous...however I excuse you." Funny, but I don't feel excused. Yep, you're right about the laptop and you're right about how much it costs to buy one here. But pompous? Compared to what? Compared to the intolerant expats that I have problems with? Compared to them? Max, you obviously prefer them to me. Have fun, my friend. Not only do those intolerant expats have laptops and not only are they insulated pero además they think YOU are a cartonero. They think that your mother is a cartonera. They think every Argentine is either a cartonero or doesn't care that Argentine children "dig through garbage to scrape up enough up to live on." Now write me back and explain to me why you prefer them to me. Please. Please write me back and explain to me why you prefer them to me.

#3. "it's easy to see who paints a more balanced picture of life in Argentina." Easy? Balance is not easy. I have trouble with it. And you obviously have trouble with it yourself.

#4. "Paints"? I've read what you paint, my friend (just click mad-maxx's name to read his blog.) As a matter of fact, I don't find much to disagree with your comments about the state of Liberty in the US. But you are offensive when it comes to the subject of "Argentine people and culture."

#5. Everything is not great in Argentina. I don't know any place where everything is great. Your blog says that you are a "Yankee." Do you compare the US more favorably with Argentina? If you ever write me back, let me know your views on that.

#6. "They know whats up here and what it is to live here. They are not stupid." That's the only sense you made. As an immigrant-not an expat, I have an entire extended Argentine family here and deep in the province.

Sorry to be so tough on you, pobre pobre. But the days when you can just spew anything, anywhere are fast comming to a close.

Mike
